Want a peek into what it's like being in a recording studio? It is more fun than you can imagine! "Lay Down a Track Jack" may be the only song ever written about having fun while working and performing in a studio.
During the Corona pandemic of 2020, Janice Marie and Joe Scheibinger spent days, sometimes until 3:00 AM writing and recording songs. Not being able to perform live for months on end because of the Covid lockdown is something neither of them had ever experienced.
While Joe was mastering one of the other songs, Janice was pondering on what our next song could be about. Janice just looked around the studio! The story line behind the lyrics were largely due to what she saw hanging on the 4 walls.
For a musician, the perfect "Man Cave" is the studio itself! So that brought the first line of the song. Everything from "seatbelts" from homebuilt aircraft parts laying on the floor to a picture of "seashells floating on the waves" were all insight. The studio is always filled with munchies! Healthy carrots downed with wine could only be outdone by a bowl of blue M&M’s with hard shells!
The intention of being here of course is to "Lay Down a Track!" Surrounded by a mural of a beautiful sea sight … tiki torches were complimented by the healthy fresh celery which was dark and green. All of this delight embraced while wearing head phones "check left check right!"
Words like "Transpose, Sonic Boost, Playback, Minors, Free Incline," were taken from the huge 55" monitor on the wall that Janice had her eyes on while Joe was mastering a different song!
The "Chicken Wire" was taken from a Fleet Farm sale catalog! The "Tower of Power" is a band that Joe loves as you can tell by the strong horn patterns he laid down on the tracks.
A studio is a Paradise and every paradise needs a flamingo - never said they could play in tune! So Janice says, "put a sequence stamp on that bird and send him home in Flip Flops and pass the Cat Camp on the way. End this journey by picking Daisies and dig into those grapes. Squeeze and squeeze the grapes and lock that concoction up safely in chicken wire – make sure it’s on sale - just like the flyer." (I can assure you no drugs were involved in the making of this project. This is due to the immense intake of coffee and being up until 3 AM!)
During the building of the video you could hear hysterical laughter all afternoon coming from the studio! If you look at it carefully, there are a bunch of "cookies" you can find that were planted in the video. If you catch them, write to us and let us know.
Here is an invitation to come over sometime and lay down your own tracks and experience the fun of being in the studio and watching your creation come to life!
